If Benidorm stands out for its excellent climate, its tourism infrastructure and its beaches, the same characteristics are shared by the surrounding area, the beautiful and picturesque areas of the Marina Alta and the Marina Baixa, the latter being neighbourhood in which Benidorm is included.
In the Marina Baixa area, it is also worth pointing out the coastal towns: La Vila Joiosa, with its beautiful multi-coloured houses and its excellent cuisine based on fish and the chocolate industry; Altea and its attractive old-town; nor should we forget the inland towns such as Alfaz del Pi, the Valle de Guadalest, La Nucía, Polop and Callosa d’en Sarrià, surrounded by green hills, natural springs and waterfalls such as those on the River Algar.
Once in the Marina Alta area, we should mention Calpe and its impressive rock, the Peñón de Ifach, one of the symbols of the Costa Blanca, Moraira, with its beautiful natural scenery and finally Denia, a city packed with archaeological riches. The area between the sea and the mountains is divided between Benissa, with its grand church, known as the “Cathedral of the Marina”, and Xàbia, with its old-town of great artistic value.
